It is possible to achieve a 20-22% thermal to electrical conversion rate for ORC units by using thermal oil as heat transmission medium. The thermal to electrical conversion rate should not be confused with the overall electrical efficiency based on the fuel input. This will typically be in the range of 12-14%.

High Pressure Hot Water Boilers for Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC)

High pressure hot water up to 190 ⁰C and design pressure up to 21.0 bar(g).

Pressure classes: 6.0/10.0/12.0/16.0/19.5/21.0 bar(g) Flow temperature: 140 – 190 ⁰C
Grate: Water-cooled – counter-current Radiation part: Horizontal flue gas pass
Convection part: Pressure drum Economizer: Vertical

It is possible to achieve an 8-12% thermal to electrical conversion rate for ORC units by using high pressure hot water as heat transmission medium. The thermal to electrical conversion rate should not be confused with the overall electrical efficiency based on the fuel input. This will typically be in the range of 7-11%.
